- 22 October 2012
With the season at a close, YONEX players captured titles once again, finishing their season with glory. Last week in Moscow, Caroline Wozniacki (VCORE Xi 100) and Maria Kirilenko (EZONE Xi 98, PTGP125) competed at the Kremlin Cup.
No. 3 seed Caroline advanced to the singles final and faced No. 1 seed Samantha Stosur. Throughout the match, Caroline played strong, especially in her return games. She won 8 of 12 break points to defeat her opponent by 6-2, 4-6, 7-5. It was Caroline’s first title since she started using the VCORE Xi 100, and her 20th WTA title. Playing with her VCORE Xi racquet, Caroline aims to finish this season as the top 10.
In the doubles final, No. 2 seed Maria and Nadia Petrova played against No.1 seed Ekaterina Makarova and Elena Vesnina. Maria recovered from an injury, resuming her tour in good condition, and was the runner-up in the doubles tournament.
The BGL BNP Paribas Luxembourg Open was also held last week, with No. 1 seeds Andrea Hlavackova (RQiS 2 Tour, PTGP125) and Lucie Hradecka winning the doubles title. In the final, they defeated No. 2 seeds Irina-Camelia Begu and Monica Niculescu in straight sets by 6-3, 6-4. The Czech doubles experts displayed their experienced performances, the same as they do in other tournaments.
