2018 Australian Open: Days 5-7

22 January 2018

ATP NextGen Champion Hyeon Chung breaks through with his first ever Top 5 win over Alexander Zverev.  Having returned from injury midway through the 2017 season, the young Korean has been on fire and is officially the first South Korean male to ever reach the 4th round of the Australian Open.

An inspired Marton Fucsovics also reaches the 4th round for the first time ever. The former junior Wimbledon Champion will look to continue his run down under taking on last year’s champion Roger Federer.

2016 Champion Angelique Kerber finds her form as she was victorious in a battle of former champions. Kerber notched a convincing win over Maria Sharapova in straight sets and will face Chinese Taipei’s Su-wei Hsieh for a spot in the last eight.

Naomi Osaka of Japan made quick work of local hope Ashleigh Barty. The highly anticipated slug fest ended in Osaka’s favor advancing her to her first ever 4th round. Osaka will take on World No. 1 Simona Halep for a chance in her first Grand Slam quarterfinal.
