2018 Australian Open: Days 3 & 4

Date
19 January 2018

On day 3 of the Australian Open, 15-year-old Marta Kostyuk (UKR) captured the hearts of the crowd with her determination and grit. Continuing a 5-match winning streak from the qualification rounds, she has become the youngest player to reach the third round since fellow Yonex player Martina Hingis in 1996. While on the men’s side, Denis Shapovalov took No.15 seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga to a thrilling five sets, but unfortunately fell short of advancing into the next round.

Excitement continued on day 4, as Hyeon Chung ousted fellow “ATP Next Gen” Daniil Medvedev in straight sets, advancing to the 3rd Round. Both Naomi Osaka, brandishing the new EZONE Blue, and Marton Fucsovics outshined their seeded opponents as the underdogs, while Angelique Kerber celebrated her 30th birthday with a win over Donna Vekic, and will now advance to face Maria Sharapova in the 3rd Round.
