Date
03 October 2016

Akane Yamaguchi (VOLTRIC 70 E-tunePOWER CUSHION 65) powered through to win her second Superseries title at the 2016 Korea Open.

The No. 7 seed at the tournament, Akane faced a number of powerful local competitors as well as her own teammates on her way to the final. She would go up against No. 5 seed Sung Ji Hyun for the title, triumphing after a tight three games. It was Akane’s distinctive brand of tenacity that would win her the match, hastily returning shuttles from every corner of the court. She would break out from a 17-17 tie, going forth to win the match 20-22, 21-15, 21-18.

Akane won her very first Superseries title at YONEX OPEN JAPAN 2013, pulling off two historic achievements. The victory made her the youngest player to ever win a Superseries title in women’s singles, and she also became first Japanese player to win a title at her home tournament.
