No. 21 Seed Garcia Crushes No. 11 Seed Konta at BNP Paribas Open

No. 21 seed Caroline Garcia (VCORE SV 100, Yonex String) defeated No. 11 seed Johanna Konta 3-6, 6-3, 7-6, advancing into the fourth round of the BNP Paribas Open for the second time in three years. Konta made a strong start, but Caroline fought back and managed to level the match in the middle of the second set. After an intense 2 hours and 11 minutes, Garcia’s constant and aggressive play brought her to victory.
“This win means a lot,” spoke Caroline post-match in a comment on the official WTA website ”I'm happy with the way I kept my focus to the end.” Garcia will meet No. 8 seed Svetlana Kuznetsova in the forth round.
Another Yonex athlete well on his way to the title is 2016 ATP Challenger Nielsen Pro Tennis Champion Yoshihito Nishioka (VCORE SV 98, POLYTOUR SPIN, POWER CUSHION FUSIONREV2), who defeated No. 21 seed Ivo Karlovic 6-4, 6-3, to reach the third round.
The third round of the BNP Paribas Open puts Naomi Osaka (EZONE DR 98, POLYTOUR PRO 125/REXIS 130) face-to-face with Madison Keys. In Round 2, the Japanese player earned an impressive 6-4, 6-2 win over her opponent, No. 34 seed Shuai Zhang. Round 2 also saw No. 2 seed and two-time Grand Slam champion Angelique Kerber (VCORE SV 100, POLYTOUR FIRE 120), beat fellow German Andrea Petkovic in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1.
In men’s singles, 2016 US Open champ Stan Wawrinka (VCORE Duel G 97, POWER CUSHION ECLIPSION) defeated the Italian Paolo Lorenzi 6-3, 6-4, while 2016 Open 13 Provence tournament champion Nick Kyrgios (EZONE DR 98, POLYTOUR PRO 120) defeated Horacio Zeballos 6-3, 6-4 .
