Yonex Presents: Naomi Osaka Junior Clinic in Tokyo, Japan

24 November 2018

Tokyo, Japan – Reigning US Open Champion Naomi Osaka (JPN) took time from her offseason to take part in, ‘YONEX Presents: Naomi Osaka Junior Clinic’ Saturday, November 24th at the SPORU SHINAGAWA OIMACHI Sports Complex. Following in coach Sascha Bajin’s footsteps, who participated in a similar coaching seminar months prior, Osaka offered advice from an athlete’s perspective to eager local juniors.

Over 30 juniors under the age of 12 and coaches from across Japan participated in the clinic. Running through drills while under the watchful eye of Osaka, she pulled aside juniors randomly to offer individual guidance. "Aim more towards to the sideline with your volley." She advised politely. After hitting cross court rallies with pairs of juniors for multiple rounds, Naomi turned her focus to an individual rally practice. She selected standout juniors to face in a short match. Some of the children on the receiving end of Naomi’s drives remarked at her incredible power and speed.

"Since everyone is so talented, I want you to become a unique player, I want you to continue enjoying tennis." Osaka described. She also mentioned her intent to win another grand slam as a personal goal.

To show support for Osaka during her first junior tennis clinic, former Japanese pro tennis athletes Ryuso Tsujino, Etsuko Kaneshiro, Yuka Yoshida, and Saori Obata all helped run the juniors through exercises throughout the event.
